Going Back to Calatagan: Burot Beach

Last year, I blogged about Casa Astillero in Calatagan Batangas. Well, this summer, I got the chance to go back to Calatagan, but not in the same beach resort.

Of course, I think everyone knows about Burot Beach, yet here I am, blogging about it. Thinking I might give a more updated information regarding the spot.

Okay, so let's start.

March 21, 2015.

12 of us including my husband visited Burot Beach in Calatagan Batangas and stayed until next noon. We are from Taytay Rizal and we rented a private van to drive us to Calatagan back and forth. If you ask me, regarding the van rental, we paid Php5,500 (excluding toll fee)  for 2 days and 1 night stay. It was our first time to visit the beach.

We arrived at around 7:00AM and everybody was disappointed. (But not me) They thought that the place was overrated. It was low-tide, like really. They thought... "Gosh what the heck did we pay for?"

In this picture, it's obvious that the water is very clear and shallow. The ocean was very still and the seashore was so quiet.
Every person paid 1,000 for food, drinks and transportation (private service). While the entrance fee Php130.00 for 24 hours stay and 30 pesos for tent placement.

The shoreline is still visible.

At around noon, we noticed the water is getting deeper and waves are forming. That's when the party started.

The water has turned blue in the afternoon.
We actually arrived in Calatagan Batangas at 6:00am. We didn't bring any produce or groceries for our 2 days and 1 night stay. We decided to look for a nearby wet market before going to the beach. We were able to find one! The nearest wet market in Burot.

My friend and her real-life piggy nose at PAMILIHAN NG CALATAGAN.
Here's the catch!

At 6:00am we were so surprised to see closed stores in the market. We expected that they will be open in the early morning, because in Metro Manila wet markets open in the early morning. A man told us to come back at 7-8a.m. because that's the time the stores open. So we went to Burot Beach and set up our tents. At 7:00 am few of my friends went back to the market.

Me, and the other friends stayed to look after our belongings. While waiting, a fisherman arrived on the seashore and sold squids. From time to time, you will find fishermen who sell their fresh catch to the campers. If you want to eat only-seafood for the whole stay, it's better to just wait for the fishermen, because they sell them in a cheaper price.

We expected to find shellfish and shrimps, but there were none. But I read some blogs about Burot that they were able to buy those from the fishermen. But still, don't expect. We were also able to buy a very big "tambakol" for only Php300.

Us. At the picnic table that we rented for Php 200.00.

Our budget for the outing was Php 12000 minus the  6000 van. All in all we spent almost 6000 for food, drinks and other necessities. Breakfast-lunch-dinner-midnight pulutan-breakfast-lunch + the 2kg of squid and tambakol+ 5 Emperador Light and 1 case of  mucho Redhorse Beer. Water in Calatagan Market is 25-30 pesos and 60 pesos in Burot Beach. Cigarette Pack is Php 90.00. Lighter with flashlight is Php 25.00.

I wasn't able to take a photo of the restrooms. They have like 4 or 6 pairs of free restrooms and one shower rooms for 10 pesos. They are cleaner than the free ones with detached bamboo doors to cover you. So, if you have your own private service or car, better shower at home. And bring a lot of wipes!

Sunset Kiss of Alajane and Rowel

One of the things that you shall not miss in Burot Beach is the beautiful sunset. A very romantic chance to take a picture like this with your other-half. Although we weren't able to witness the full image of the sun while setting in due to the very cloudy sky.  It had still been a very amazing view.

Preparing for midnight bonfire. Firewood costs Php 200.00 make sure to tell the person in-charge the size you prefer.

Our bonfire lasted longer than others.

We all had the best experience in Burot Beach! It's affordable and relaxing. I don't really recommend this to couples who want to camp alone, especially in summer, because it'll be a bit crowded.

Make sure to check the weather before going to beaches, especially if you're just camping. The first day was  really perfect until midnight. It rained so hard at 1:00am (I think) and half of the group ended up sleeping in the van. Which is very very fortunate.
